The Declaration of the People of Virginia was the result of the uprising in 1676 - 1677 known as Bacon's Rebellion and the grievances against the Colonial government by the colonists in the colony of Virginia. The Declaration of the People was written "in the name of the people" and was signed by "Nathaniel Bacon, General by Consent of the people. The document set a precedent for colonists to obtain equality and viewed as a forerunner to the Declaration of Independence.
